The Crest
Elements that build the crest/shield logo are drawn from the major influencers of Peter Rossin’s life.
“Stars” symbolize the organizations and people the Rossin Foundation has and will support, toward enhancing the quality of life for the people of Western Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh’s three rivers.
Molecular configuration of titanium, the twenty-second element on the periodic table of elements, the raw material Mr. Rossin ‘forged’ to make a living for his family and many others, enabling his wife Ada and him to become philanthropists.
The sun element is taken from a part of Lehigh University’s logo/ shield. The P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science owes its name to the late Peter C. Rossin (1923-2003), a member of Lehigh’s Class of 1948. He established a $25-million endowment for the college in 1998. ”Lehigh taught me to understand technology and people,” Rossin said in 1998.
The winged star reflects the insignia for the U. S. Army Air Corps, to honor Mr. Rossin’s service during World War II. His group flew missions out of Italy into southern Europe.
